Asphalt Training Superpave Mix Design TechnologistThe Kentucky Asphalt Qualification Program soon will begin its eighth season of technologist training and qualification. This program is a three-way partnership of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Plantmix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Transportation Center. The purpose of the program is to develop and maintain a pool of well-trained specialists for designing and managing hot-mix asphalt (HMA). Kentucky specifications and Federal mandates require qualified technologists on all HMA projects. Individuals who have never been previously qualified as an SPT must register for the 3.5- day SPT class. Please note that this training course is not meant for novices; experience and knowledge of basic HMA concepts and testing procedures is highly recommended. Anyone seeking a SMDT (Superpave Mix Design Technologist) qualification must hold, or be registered for, the prerequisite SPT (Superpave Plant Technologist) qualification. Prior to enrolling in the Superpave Plant Technologist (SPT) or Superpave Mix Design Technologist (SMDT) qualification course, you should have a basic understanding of the methods and concepts involved. These courses are not for novices in this field. These classes are not intended to introduce or teach basic hot-mix asphalt (HMA) or Superpave principles. Instead, they are intended to review Kentucky procedures, familiarize experienced technologists with some important new practices, and provide an overview of the information used on a daily basis in HMA testing. Anyone seeking a Superpave Mix Design Technologist Qualification must hold, or be registered for, the prerequisite Superpave Plant Technologist Qualification. The registration fee of $750 covers materials, lunch and refreshments (excluding Asphalt Field Technician Courses). Payment is due in advance. (District KDOH and Central Office employees must have approval rom the Division Director). A confirmation letter will be mailed three weeks prior to the course. Cancellations must be made 3 days in advance of your scheduled date in order to receive a refund. Persons arriving more than 15 minutes late to class will not be admitted. Also, out of respect for other students and in consideration of the importance of the information being taught, persons missing more than 15 minutes of the training during the day or leaving more than 15 minutes early at the end of the day, will not receive credit for the course. Thank you for your cooperation. Available Training Dates and Locations Superpave Mix Design Technologist
