Superpave Mix Design TechnologistRequirements Available Training Dates & Locations Registration The Kentucky Asphalt Qualification Program soon will begin its eighth season of technologist training and qualification. This program is a three-way partnership of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Plantmix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky, and the Kentucky Transportation Center. The purpose of the program is to develop and maintain a pool of well-trained specialists for designing and managing hot-mix asphalt (HMA). Kentucky specifications and Federal mandates require qualified technologists on all HMA projects. Individuals who have never been previously qualified as an SPT must register for the 3.5- day SPT class. Please note that this training course is not meant for novices; experience and knowledge of basic HMA concepts and testing procedures is highly recommended. Anyone seeking a SMDT (Superpave Mix Design Technologist) qualification must hold, or be registered for , the prerequisite SPT (Superpave Plant Technologist) qualification.
