Safety Circuit Rider Program

Lance Meredith is the Safety Circuit Rider for KTC and T2.

For more information about improving rural two-lane roads, contact meredith@engr.uky.edu or 859-230-6388.

See Before/After pictures from the Safety Circuit Rider Program.

An F.H.W.A. Office of Safety Grant kicked off the UK Safety Circuit Rider Program on February 1, 2005.
Because of the success of the Safety Circuit Rider during the first two years of operation, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has provided funding to continue the program. During 2007 the program will continue to focus on crashes involving roadway departure, reduction of fatal crashes, collisions at intersections, and the reduction of pedestrian crashes and fatalities.

The Safety Circuit Rider will continue to work closely with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Division of Traffic and Operations and their Highway Safety Corridor Program.

The Safety Circuit Rider will continue to provide information through training, materials and advice for accepted countermeasures to identified problems. He will meet with elected officials, road and street crews and local law officials to determine ways to alleviate hazards. Locals will be referred to their respective Kentucky Transportation Highway District Office or to the consulting engineering industry for specific engineering assistance.

The Safety Circuit Rider will also present Low-Cost Safety Improvements for Rural Roads workshops in 2007. Local officials will be invited to attend the workshops.
