Master Optional
Road Surface Management for Local Agencies is a new course
that is being developed cooperatively by the Kentucky Transportation
Center--through the Technology Transfer Program and the Pavements and Materials
Section--and the Plantmix Asphalt Industry of Kentucky (PAIKY).
This one-day course will count as a Road Master Optional workshop for those
local agency employees as well as others who are working on their Roads
Scholar/Road Master designations. The Governor's Office for Local Development
(GOLD). has approved this course for six hours of training for county elected
officials.
The Agenda will be placed on this site by the end of December. Please keep
checking back for additional information.
Date and location
Please note that the Road Surface Management for Local Agencies will
be presented as part of the PAIKY Winter Training School on February 7-9, 2005,
at the Galt House East in Louisville. You can
take this course by itself (February 8, 2005) or as part of the PAIKY Winter
Training School.
Course Description
Effective local government agencies understand the benefits of managing their
assets. Given the tremendous investment in roads and streets, it is important
that local officials implement a system to determine pavement conditions and
prioritize maintenance and rehabilitation. Not only is this good practice but it
also provides a subjective and defensible process for evaluating needs and
requesting financial resources. This course will provide the local official the
management tools necessary to implement a program in their city or county. In
addition, the participants will receive guidance on contract documents,
materials requirements and oversight of construction operations.
Course Materials
Each session will include a written description of the topic and will be
included in the handout materials. In addition, a companion PowerPoint
presentation will be developed that will follow along with the written text.
